India's shooting sensation Manu Bhaker will be in action in the women's 10m air pistol event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Sunday morning.
The 19-year-old, who will be making her Olympic debut, will be a strong medal contender in the shooting event alongside her compatriot Yashaswini Singh Deswal.
While Yashaswini Singh Deswal is the top-ranked shooter in the women's 10m air pistol event, Manu Bhaker is placed second in the world ranking.
“To win the Olympic gold medal, I have been working really hard for the past five years now, and it has always been my dream,” Bhaker said in a video posted by the Sports Ministry.
“The government has been very helpful throughout my shooting years. Whenever we needed any equipment or ammunition for training purposes or pistols or anything, everything was being settled by the government,” the Haryana-born shooter added.
At just 19, Manu Bhaker has already won gold medals in the prestigious ISSF World Cup finals, Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympics.
For the women’s 10m air pistol event, a 60-shot’ qualification round has been put into place for the first time at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In the previous editions of the quadrennial event, the ‘40-shot’ qualification round was introduced for the shooting event.
