Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has said that although Virat Kohli is the best batsman at the moment, he won’t be able break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of playing 200 Test matches.
Sehwag, who has played 104 Tests and 251 ODIs for India, is commonly known for his outspoken quotes, and speaking about the Indian captain, the 40-year-old said Kohli is way on course of breaking several records of Tendulkar. However, there remains one such achievement that not even Kohli will be able reach.
"At the moment, Virat (Kohli) is the best batsman. The way he is scoring centuries, the way he is scoring runs, he is scoring runs, he is the best. I am sure he will break most of Sachin Tendulkar’s records,” Sehwag told Times of India.
“The one record no one can break is his (Sachin) 200 Test matches record. I don’t think anyone can break his record of playing 200 Test matches. I don’t think anybody can play more than 200 Test matches.”
Kohli, as of now, has scored 43 centuries in ODI and needs just seven more to break Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI tons. As far as Tests are concerned, Kohli (25) has reached halfway through Tendulkar’s 51 Test centuries.
Despite all these achievements though, a debate is on shore which states that Australia’s Steven Smith is a better batsman than the Indian captain. Sehwag, on the other hand, says, “Virat Kohli is a much better player than Steve Smith. If you look Kohli and Smith, Kohli looks much more pleasing to the eyes in comparison with Smith.”
