Pardeep Narwal finally turned up his game by scoring seven raid points against a hapless Goa team, while defending champions Indian Railways stole the show in their opening match of the 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championship at Poornima University in Jaipur on Tuesday.
Pawan Sehrawat played two matches for Indian Railways and racked up 14 points as they won both of them against Jharkhand and Gujarat. However, Kerala vs Chhattisgarh remained the most entertaining match of the day, finishing at 65-43 for Kerala.
Punjab vs Assam
Punjab thrashed Assam 52-19 on the day with the help of a High 5 by defender Jaskirat Singh and seven raid points by Rajwinderpal Singh.
Indian Railways vs Jharkhand
In their first match against Jharkhand, Indian Railways conceded only seven points and scored 37 to lodge an emphatic victory. Gujarat Fortunegiants’ duo Rohit Gulia and Parvesh Bhainswal starred for the team with nine raid points and three tackle points respectively. Pawan Sehrawat, on the other hand, managed to bag eight points in the match.
Delhi vs Goa
Amit Nagar’s Super 10 helped Delhi edge past Goa in a close encounter that ended in 38-32 in favour of Delhi.
Pondicherry vs Tripura
Tripura could manage only 11 points against Pondicherry’s 36 powered by Viyasamuni’s eight raid points.
Rajasthan vs Orissa
Orissa’s losing streak continues as they went down 13-54 to Rajasthan. Brijendra Chaudhary’s Super 10 was the only talking point in the match.
Uttaranchal vs West Bengal
Ajay Chandra scored a Super 10 to take his team comfortably past the West Bengal side by a 62-38 points margin.
Services vs Assam
Naveen Kumar and Nitin Tomar took a back seat as Services lodged another comfortable victory, this time against Assam. Sahil and Sachin Narwal contributed with Super 10s as they won the match 67-13.
Himachal Pradesh vs Jammu and Kashmir
Himachal Pradesh’s all-round display impressed the audience again as they beat J&K by 44 points to 19. Amandeep Singh was a loan warrior for J&K with his High 5.
Delhi vs Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu emerged victorious against their North Indian rivals in a closely fought encounter that ended 35-29.
Pondicherry vs Vidarbha
Pondicherry won their second match of the day against Vidarbha 55-34, helped by Jayakumar’s Super 10.
Kerala vs Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh played out one of the most entertaining matches of the day as Yashvant Yadav and Manoj Kumar scored Super 10s to help M.P see out Kerala by a narrow 45-41 margin.
Indian Railways vs Gujarat
Rohit Gulia top-scored for Indian Railways with another nine points assisted by Pawan Sehrawat’s six points. The defending champions won their second match by 33-16.
Bihar vs Chandigarh
Bihar managed to hold Chandigarh in an exciting 29-29 tie.
Punjab vs Kerala C Direction
While the raid points were the same for both the teams at 19, it was the tackle points that won Kerala C Direction the game against Punjab. The final scoreline was 35-33 for the South Indian team.
Maharashtra vs Manipur
Manipur’s defence was not enough to fend off the Maharashtra attack. After an overwhelmed performance, they succumbed to a 46-17 scoreline.
Haryana vs Goa
The Narwal-duo, Pardeep and Sandeep joined hands in attack and defence respectively to fetch Haryana an easy 47-16 win against Goa. Pardeep Narwal, although scored seven raid points, is not at his destructive best yet, but was helped by Sandeep Narwal’s five tackle points to lodge the win.
