The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 11 Player Auction will take place in Mumbai on August 15-16, Mashal Sports, the organisers of the league announced on Thursday, July 25.
The Pro Kabaddi journey began 10 years ago in 2014 following the inception of the league and PKL will mark its 10th anniversary on July 26.
Furthermore, along with the announcement, Mashal Sports also revealed a new Pro Kabaddi League logo, which showcases the colours of saffron and green in keeping with the Indian flag’s tri-colour, thereby reinforcing kabaddi as the country’s proud sport.
One of the most successful sports leagues in India, PKL has transformed kabaddi ever since the start of the league in 2014.
As many as 12 franchises compete in the Pro Kabaddi League for the coveted title over the course of a three-month long campaign that features more than 135 matches, making it one of the longest and most gruelling sports leagues in India.
Two-time champions Jaipur Pink Panthers were the first team to win the prestigious Pro Kabaddi title in Season 1, while Puneri Paltan are the defending champions after winning Season 10.
Patna Pirates are the most successful team in PKL history with three title triumphs. U Mumba, Bengaluru Bulls, Bengal Warriors, and Dabang Delhi K.C. are the other franchises who have won the PKL title in the past.
Past PKL auctions have seen players divided into four different categories with varying base prices from the range of INR 30 lakh to 9 lakh.
While it remains to be seen whether the league follows a similar methodology for the upcoming Season 11 player auction next month, expect players to be divided into domestic, overseas and new young players (NYPs) categories before going under the hammer.
The Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 Player Auction will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network and live streamed on Disney+ hotstar.
