The Asian Games 2023 kabaddi events will start on October 2 and conclude on October 7 in Hangzhou, China.
Kabaddi at the Asian Games 2023 will see nine men’s national teams and seven women’s national teams compete for the coveted gold medal in their respective events.
As per the Asian Games 2023 men’s kabaddi format, nine teams have been divided into two groups with matches lasting for a duration of 45 minutes.
Group A features India, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Thailand, while Group B includes Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea.
In the Asian Games 2023 women’s kabaddi competition, seven teams have been split into two groups with matches lasting for 35 minutes..
India, Chinese Taipei, South Korea and Thailand are placed in Group A, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Nepal and Iran.
In both the men’s and women’s events, each team will play the other sides in their group once in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
All kabaddi matches at Hangzhou 2023 will be played at the Xiaoshan Guali Sports Centre.
Iran are the defending champions of both the men’s and women’s competitions in Kabaddi at Asian Games. They bagged gold in both the events at Asian Games 2018.
The Indian kabaddi team is the most successful side in both men’s and women’s events in Asian Games history.
While the men’s team has clinched gold on seven occasions, the women’s team has won it twice.
