The UEFA Women's EURO 2022 final between England and record eight-time champions Germany will take place on Sunday, July 31. The home of English football, the iconic Wembley Stadium will host the showpiece event which will kick-off at 9:30 PM IST.
England and Germany are yet to lose a game in UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 so far but something’s got to give come Sunday’s final. England in Group A were alongside Austria, Norway and Northern Ireland and won each of their three group stage games before beating Spain and Sweden in the knockout rounds.
Such was England’s dominance during the group stage that they scored 14 goals in three outings, including an 8-0 win over Norway, while keeping three clean sheets.
Germany, on the other hand, were in Group B with Spain, Denmark and Finland. The Die Nationalelf averaged three goals per game, scoring nine goals in the group stage before eliminating Austria and France in the knockout stages.
"It will be an incredible final. We will be playing at Wembley in front of 80 or 90,000 people and most of them for England and against us, but we understand that and we accept the challenge,” said Germany coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg ahead of the final.
“England have been incredible in this tournament every single game for dynamism, lots of goals, and they are so incredibly confident. It will be a great football feast," she added.
Sunday’s match is going to be England’s third appearance in the Women’s EURO final. The Lionesses first did so in the inaugural edition in 1984 but lost out to Sweden. In 2009, they squared off against Germany but were beaten 2-6 in the final.
