The men’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2023 started on June 21 and will conclude on July 8 in Romania and Georgia.
A total of 16 teams are competing for continental glory in the 24th edition of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
As per the format, these 16 nations have been placed into four groups of four teams each.
Georgia, Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal are clubbed into Group A, while Group B includes Romania, Spain, Ukraine and Croatia. Group C features England, Germany, Israel and Czech Republic. Meanwhile, Switzerland, France, Norway and Italy are placed in Group D.
Each nation will play the other three teams in their group once. After the end of the group stage, the top two teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
Three nations from the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2023 will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics. France have automatically qualified for Paris 2024 as Olympics hosts. England are not eligible for qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Germany are the defending champions of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, having defeated Portugal 1-0 in the 2021 final.
Spain and Italy are the most successful teams in the tournament’s history, having clinched the prestigious competition five times each.
