The UEFA Europa League 2022-23 semi-finals are all set to get underway with the first-leg ties slated to take place from 12:30 AM (IST) on Friday, May 12.
The second leg ties for these semi-finals will take place a week later at 12:30 AM (IST) on Friday, May 19.
Italian club AS Roma will take on German outfit Bayer Leverkusen in one semi-final, while Juventus face Europa League specialists Sevilla in the other.
After suffering a slump that saw them drop out of the European football spots for next season in Serie A, AS Roma will be desperate to take something from the clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
Roma has European football pedigree under head coach Jose Mourinho and won the UEFA Conference League last season.
With no wins in their last four Serie A games, you can rest assured that Mourinho and Roma will be desperate to go all the way in the Europa League as they bid to secure UEFA Champions League football for next season by winning the competition.
Roma will be hoping that their big players like Paulo Dybala, Tammy Abraham, and Lorenzo Pellegrini can rise to the challenge and guide the team to a second European final in just as many years under Mourinho.
Getting the better of Bayer Leverkusen though won’t be easy. Currently sixth in Bundesliga, the Xabi Alonso-coached Leverkusen team occupy the automatic UEFA Conference League spot in their domestic standings but will be keen to earn a Champions League spot by winning the Europa League.
To overcome Roma, Leverkusen will need their big-game players like Florian Writz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Moussa Diaby to rise to the occasion.
Meanwhile, the other semi-final between Juventus and Sevilla promises to be a blockbuster affair. Second in Serie A, Juventus will be hoping to end their season on a high with the Europa League crown since the league title has already been wrapped up by Napoli.
They will be slight favourites heading into the clash against Sevilla with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Paul Pogba, Adrien Rabiot, and Arkadiusz Milik all likely to feature.
Sevilla, on the other hand, will fancy their chances against any opposition after knocking out Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The most successful club in the history of the competition with six titles to their credit, Sevilla will be a difficult opponent for the Old Lady.
