FC Barcelona are the richest football team in the world as per the latest list compiled by Wealthy Gorilla.
The Blaugrana, plagued with a debt bill that is running in excess of USD 1.5 billion, had finished as Forbes’ most valuable football team in 2021. As per a recent study conducted by Wealthy Gorilla, the 26-time La Liga champions are now valued at USD 959 million.
Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid, record winners of La Liga (34) and the UEFA Champions League (13), are second on the list with an estimated value of USD 864 million.
Manchester United, owned by the Glazers family, are the richest football team in England and are the third richest football team in the world overall. The Red Devils are valued at USD 811.7 million and lead the list of English clubs that make the top 10 list.
Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City do not find themselves among the top five clubs that are the richest football teams in the world. The Cityzens, owned by Sheikh Mansour’s City Football Group, are sixth with a club value of USD 696.6 million.
Bayern Munich (fourth), Paris Saint-Germain (fifth) and Juventus (10th) - the most decorated teams in Germany, France and Italy respectively - complete the top 10 list.
Newcastle United, who made headlines in 2021 when a consortium led by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia completed a 300-million-pound takeover of the Magpies, are 19th on the list for the top 20 richest football teams in the world. The Magpies are valued at USD 228.6 million.
