La Liga giants Real Madrid will lock horns with Serie A outfit Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup 2024 at the National Stadium Warsaw in Warsaw, Poland.

The Real Madrid vs Atalanta UEFA Super Cup 2024 final will start at 12:30 AM IST on Thursday, August 15.

Organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), the UEFA Super Cup is an annual super cup football match that acts as a curtain raiser to the European football season, contested by the winners of the two main European club competitions - the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.

Under the tutelage of manager Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid claimed a record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League title after they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the 2023-24 final at Wembley Stadium to qualify for the UEFA Super Cup 2024.

Madrid will make their ninth appearance in the UEFA Super Cup history, having won the title on five occasions in 2002, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2022. They have also finished runners-up thrice in 1998, 2000 and 2018.

Apart from Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan are the most successful teams in the competition’s history with five titles each.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos will head into the UEFA Super Cup 2024 after a mixed pre-season 2024 tour to the United States.

While Madrid concluded their pre-season 2024 with a 2-1 win over Chelsea, they earlier succumbed to defeats against arch-rivals Barcelona (1-2) and AC Milan (0-1).

New summer signing Kylian Mbappe is in line to make his debut for the club in Warsaw.

The likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Dani Carvajal and Aurélien Tchouaméni could also feature in the star-studded starting XI.

On the other hand, Atalanta qualified for the UEFA Super Cup 2024 after beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League 2023-24 final at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

UEFA Europa League winners Atalanta will make their UEFA Super Cup debut against Madrid. They will become the 41st club to feature in the marquee competition and seventh team from Italy.

Under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta will aim to bounce back after some rather disappointing results in the pre-season 2024.

Atalanta were held to a 2-2 draw by AZ Alkmaar while suffering losses against Parma (1-4) and FC St. Pauli (0-3).

Charles De Ketelaere, Ademola Lookman, Mateo Retegui and Mateo Retegui will be some of the stars to watch out for Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup 2024.

Manchester City are the defending champions of the UEFA Super Cup after they defeated Sevilla on penalties last season.
