RB Leipzig will be taking on Borussia Dortmund for the second time in five days as both sides clash in the 2020-21 DFB Pokal final match at the Olympiastadion Berlin on May 14, Friday.
With the Bundesliga 2020-21 season already sealed by Bayern Munich, who won their ninth consecutive league title, both RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund will be desperate to get their hands on the last piece of silverware available this season.
While Leipzig have sealed a place in next season's UEFA Champions League with 64 points in 32 games, Dortmund find themselves in a tussle with Eintracht Frankfurt till the last day of the season for the fourth and final Champions League spot. However, Dortmund will go into the final as the more confident side after they defeated Leipzig 3-2 in a thrilling Bundesliga match last Saturday.
Having won the DFB Pokal title in 2017 previously, Dortmund know what it takes to get over the line in the final. They are also unbeaten against Leipzig in their last seven matches.
RB Leipzig injury update and team news
While Leipzig have evidently been the better side in the domestic league, Julien Nagelsmann will go into the final without injured midfielders Lazar Samardzic and Dominik Szoboszlai. Apart from them, midfielders Tyler Adams and Christopher Nkunku could also miss the clash with injuries.
Borussia Dortmund injury update and team news
Dortmund too have a few fitness issues. Struggling with injuries throughout the season, the Black and Yellows will be without key players like Mahmoud Dahoud, Marwin Hitz, Mateu Morey, Youssoufa Moukoko, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Axel Witsel, and Marcel Schmelzer.
However, Dortmund’s biggest boost could be the return of mercurial striker Erling Haaland. The striker has reportedly been training well ahead of the final clash after he had been injured for their last two games.
