La Liga giants Atletico Madrid (ATL) travel to Italy to take on Milan (MIL) in Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League 2021-22 season at San Siro on Wednesday, September 29.
ATL vs MIL Dream11 prediction
While Atletico Madrid have been a constant fixture in the UEFA Champions League of late, AC Milan are appearing in the competition for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign. In fact, that was the same season when the Italians faced Atletico in the Round of 16.
Atletico won the first-leg 1-0 at San Siro before crushing Milan to a 4-1 defeat at home. Since then though, Atletico have failed to win each of their last four matches against an Italian opponent without scoring a goal (D2, L2).
Heading into Wednesday’s match, Atletico’s form remains a major worry given that they have won just two of their last five matches in all competitions. Milan, on the other hand, have won three. They are, in fact, unbeaten at home since a 1-2 defeat to Sassuolo in April, which is enough to give Milan the upper hand in this fixture.
MIL vs ATL Dream11 team tips for UEFA Champions League 2021-22
Top tip: Best forward
ATL’s Luis Suarez will pose a great threat to Milan’s backline. If the Uruguayan gets enough service, Milan will have a hard time stopping him. At 34, he is still going strong having scored three goals in three starts for his team.
Top tip: Best midfielder
MIL’s Brahim Diaz has been in fine form this season. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has scored four goals in all competitions and is likely to add more to his tally. In Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 formation, Diaz has enjoyed more freedom to the betterment of his team.
Top tip: Best defender and goalkeeper
MIL left-back Theo Hernandez is a dangerous talent to play against. The 23-year-old has already been involved in three goals (one goal and two assists) this season and it is safe to say that Atletico’s right-back Kieran Trippier is set for a hard time.
As for a goalkeeper, ATL’s Jan Oblak remains the obvious choice and should be picked ahead of MIL’s Mike Maignan. One of the best custodians in the past few seasons in Europe, Oblak is difficult to beat between the sticks and a reliable presence for Atletico’s backline.
MIL vs ATL probable playing XI
MIL playing XI (probable): Mike Maignan (goalkeeper); Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer (captain), Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Franck Kessie, Ismael Bennacer; Alexis Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Rafael Leao; Olivier Giroud
ATK playing XI (probable): Jan Oblak (goalkeeper); Jose Gimenez, Felipe, Mario Hermoso; Kieran Trippier, Marcos Llorente, Koke (captain), Rodrigo De Paul, Yannick Carrasco; Luis Suarez, Joao Felix
