Premier League champions Manchester City get their pre-season tour of 2022-23 underway against Club America at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on Thursday, July 21.
The Cityzens’ 2022-23 pre-season tour features two games in the US against Club America and Bayern Munich before they return home to face Liverpool in the Community Shield game on July 30.
Manchester City have been one of the active teams in the summer transfer window, as they made two important signings in Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips.
Julian Alvarez, who was signed in the January transfer window of the 2021-22 season, was formally presented to City fans this summer as he spent the second part of last season on loan at former club River Plate.
On the flipside, Man City saw forwards Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus leave the Premier League champions for rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, respectively. Another major exit was that of long-serving midfielder Fernandinho, who joined Athletico Paranaense after nine seasons in Manchester.
Pep Guardiola has included the three new City signings - Haaland, Phillips and Alvarez - on his 26-man travelling squad for their 2022-23 pre-season tour.
However, the Spanish manager opted to leave out Phil Foden, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan from the trip to the US.
The players will train with City’s Under-23 team with the likelihood of joining up with the first team ahead of the Community Shield match against Liverpool. Another absentee is central defender Aymeric Laporte, who has reportedly failed to make the cut for the pre-season squad due to fitness issues.
