Real Madrid travel to Anfield to play the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool in the early hours on Thursday.

The Los Blancos have a 3-1 advantage from the first leg and look set to head to the UCL semis. Real Madrid are unbeaten in 15 games across all competition at the moment, which also includes a 2-1 win over arch-rivals Barcelona in the recently-concluded El Clasico.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been struggling big time. They have won just two of their last 10 home games across UCL and the Premier League.

Real Madrid dominated Liverpool on all fronts last week. Their midfielders ran the show and their forwards were in red hot form too. Liverpool indeed have a mountain to climb and judging by their defensive frailties, it’s not going to be any easier for them.

Liverpool team news and injury update

Jurgen Klopp will continue to be without his first-choice centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Apart from the duo, Liverpool will also miss the services of Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson. Injury to Henderson means Klopp will either have to go with James Milner or Thiago Alcantara in the midfield.

Klopp might deploy Sadio Mane back into the starting XI after the Senegalese was rested against Aston Villa. This means Diogo Jota is likely to make way.

Real Madrid team news and injury update

Real Madrid face similar issues. Both of their central defenders in Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane will miss the game, while a certain Lucas Vazquez is the latest member on the list. The Spain international, who played as a right-back during the El Clasico, has been diagnosed with a cruciate ligament sprain in his left knee. Madrid’s first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal is out due to injury too. All these players were left out from Real Madrid’s 21-man squad for the game.

Furthermore, it has been reported that their star winger Eden Hazard will not be rushed into the match as he is still recovering from a muscle injury.
