The Indian Super League 2024-25 began with a thrilling 2-2 draw played between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Mumbai City FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Friday, September 13.

Last season’s ISL Shield champions Mohun Bagan took an early lead courtesy of an own goal from José Luis Espinosa Arroyo before defender Alberto Rodríguez doubled the lead for the Mariners in the 28th minute.

However, reigning ISL Cup winner Mumbai City later bounced back in the second half as goals from José Luis Espinosa Arroyo and Thaer Krouma helped the visitors salvage a point.

Mohun Bagan’s star duo of Jason Cummings and Dimitrios Petratos, Odisha FC’s Roy Krishna, East Bengal’s new recruit Dimitrios Diamantakos, Jordan Murray of Jamshedpur FC and Kerala Blasters’ Jesús Jiménez are expected to compete for the ISL 2024-25 Golden Boot award.

Among Indian footballers, Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri, Mumbai City FC star forward Vikram Partap Singh, Chennaiyin FC’s Farukh Choudhary, NorthEast United FC’s Parthib Gogoi, Nandhakumar Sekar of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan’s Manvir Singh are strong contenders to finish as the leading goal-scorer in ISL season 10.

The ISL Golden Boot is an annual association football award presented to the leading goalscorer in the Indian Super League.

Former Kerala Blasters forward Dimitrios Diamantakos won the ISL Golden Boot award last season with 13 goals in just 17 games.

While Roy Krishna also netted 13 goals in 25 matches for Odisha FC last season, Dimitrios Diamantakos bagged the ISL Golden Boot award for a better goals-to-minutes ratio.

Elano (2014), Stiven Mendoza (2015), Marcelinho (2016), Coro (2017-18, 2018-19), Nerijus Valskis (2019-20), Igor Angulo (2020-21) and Bartholomew Ogbeche (2021-22) are the previous ISL Golden Boot Winners.
