The Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 will start on Friday, September 13 as league shield winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant will host defending cup winners Mumbai City FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
The ISL 2024-25 opening match is a rematch of last season’s final where Mumbai City FC defeated Mohun Bagan Super Giant 3-1 at the same venue.
As many as 13 teams will compete in the 11th season of the Indian Super League. Mohammedan Sporting Club will make their debut in the ISL after they were promoted by winning I-League last season.
Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC, East Bengal FC, FC Goa, Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC, Kerala Blasters FC, Mohammedan SC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United FC, Punjab FC and Odisha FC are the 13 teams that will take part in ISL 2024-25.
Meanwhile, the fixture list of the first 84 matches of the ISL 2024-25 season has been announced.
For the first time in ISL history, East Bengal FC, Mohammedan SC and Mohun Bagan SG will be the three teams from one city to feature in the league.
These three teams will compete in six mini Kolkata derbies throughout the season.
The first mini Kolkata derby of the season between Mohun Bagan SG and Mohammedan SC will be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on October 5.
The first Kolkata derby of the ISL 2024-25 season between arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal is scheduled to be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on October 19.
Meanwhile, East Bengal and Mohammedan SC will clash in the ISL for the first time on November 9.
Apart from the Kolkata derbies, the South Indian derbies will feature Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters.
Kerala Blasters will host Bengaluru FC in the first South Indian derby of the ISL 2024-25 season on October 25.
As per the ISL 2024-25 playoff format, the top two teams at the conclusion of the league phase will automatically qualify for the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, teams finishing between third and sixth spot will feature in a single-leg playoff to determine the remaining two finalists.
