Hosts Ireland will square off against England in both teams’ UEFA Nations League 2024-25 League Group F opener at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The Ireland vs England, UEFA Nations League 2024-25 match will start at 9:30 PM IST on Saturday, September 7.

After suffering a 1-2 heartbreak against Spain in the final of the UEFA European Football Championship 2024, England will enter a new era with Gareth Southgate no longer acting as their head coach.

Lee Carsley, who was the head coach of England’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship-winning team in 2023, will be head coach of the senior team on an interim basis, putting him in-charge of their match against Ireland.

There are plenty of new faces in the senior England setup with players like Angel Gomes, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White and Noni Madueke, all earning call-ups having previously played for Carsley during his time as England Under-21 manager.

The likes of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins have withdrawn from the squad despite receiving call-ups while Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire return after missing EURO 2024 after being cut and injured respectively.

England have competed in the UEFA Nations League from its inaugural season in 2018–19 when they progressed to the 2019 finals and finished third, which is their best performance in the competition to date.

Meanwhile, the Ireland national football team will be eager to cause an upset against their neighbours and rivals England under the guidance of manager Heimir Hallgrimsson, who famously knocked England out at EURO 2016 as coach of Iceland.

As far as team news goes, Hallgrimsson will be without the injured Josh Cullen and Gavin Bazunu although a talented Evan Ferguson makes his return from injury.

The Icelandic manager has also recalled the likes of Callum Robinson, Alan Browne and Jayson Molumby while 22-year-old Kasey McAteer looks set to make his debut for the Boys in Green after changing international alliances from England.
