Inter Miami will host Atlanta United in an MLS Cup Playoffs 2024 match on Sunday, November 10.
The Inter Miami vs Atlanta United MLS Cup Playoffs 2024 match will be played at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at 06:30 AM on Sunday. Live streaming of the match will be available in India.
This will be the third and final match between both sides in the best-of-three round-one knockout in the MLS Cup Playoffs 2024. Both teams registered identical 2-1 wins in the first two matches taking the contest to a third round to decide the winner.
The first team to win two matches in the best-of-three round-one contest will advance to the Conference semifinals.
Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, won the first match with goals from his former Barcelona teammates Luiz Suarez and Jordi Alba. However, Atlanta United bounced back with a win at home in the second round to take the contest to the decider.
The regular MLS season is followed by a postseason knockout tournament to determine the league champion. This elimination tournament is called the MLS Cup Playoffs. The final match of the tournament or the championship game is called the MLS Cup.
A total of 18 teams, the top nine from the Eastern and Western conferences, qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs based on their regular season points total. The top seven teams from both conferences automatically qualified for Round One of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
The teams ranked eighth and ninth in both geographies play each other in the Wild-card round in a single knockout match with the winners progressing to Round One.
Inter Miami, which plays in the Eastern Conference, won the Supporters’ Shield, the annual award for the team with the best record in the regular season, in the 2024 season with 74 points from 22 wins, eight draws and four losses in 34 matches.
Meanwhile, Atlanta finished ninth in the regular season with 40 points from 34 matches. They qualified for the round one playoffs after winning their wild-card match against eighth-placed Montreal on penalties.
Four teams that win their round one matches proceed to the Conference semifinals of each geography. The Conference Final is played between the teams that advance from the semifinals in their respective geography.
The winner of the respective Conference Final will advance to play the MLS Cup, the championship match with all matches after round one to be played in a single-legged knockout format.
Inter Miami vs Atlanta United head-to-head
There is nothing to separate Inter Miami and Atlanta United in their head-to-head record with both teams winning six matches each out of the total 16 matches played. Four matches have ended in draws.
Apart from the last two matches in the MLS Cup Playoffs 2024 with each team winning once, Inter Miami met Atlanta twice in the regular season. While the duel in September 2024 ended in a 2-2 draw, Atlanta won by a 3-1 margin in the May 2024 encounter.
