The Indian Super League 2023-24 began with Kerala Blasters’ 2-1 victory over Bengaluru FC in the opening fixture at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on September 21.
Bengaluru FC’s Keziah Veendorp opened the scoring with an unfortunate own goal to provide Kerala Blasters the lead in the 52nd minute. The hosts soon doubled the lead courtesy Adrian Luna’s strike in the 69th minute.
Striker Curtis Main netted a consolation goal for the visitors who went down in the closely-fought encounter.
Mumbai City FC’s Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Kerala Blasters’ Adrian Luna, Mohun Bagan Super Giant duo of Dimitri Petratos and Jason Cummings are the leading players contesting for the ISL 2023-24 Golden Boot award.
Among Indians, NorthEast United FC’s Parthib Gogoi and Manvir Singh of Mohun Bagan are strong contenders to finish as the leading goal-scorer in ISL season 10.
The ISL Golden Boot is an annual association football award presented to the leading goalscorer in the Indian Super League.
Odisha FC’s star forward Diego Mauricio won the ISL Golden Boot award last season with 12 goals in 21 games.
Elano (2014), Stiven Mendoza (2015), Marcelinho (2016), Coro (2017-18, 2018-19), Nerijus Valskis (2019-20), Igor Angulo (2020-21) and Bartholomew Ogbeche (2021-22) are the previous ISL Golden Boot Winners.
