After a historic encounter against Brazil, the India women’s football team will take on Chile in their second match of Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino, a four-nation tournament in the early hours of Monday at the Arena da Amazonia in Manaus, Brazil.
Under the tutelage of head coach Thomas Dennerby, India faced former World Cup runners-up Brazil for the first time and even impressed in the first half before suffering a 1-6 defeat against the seventh-ranked side in the FIFA rankings.
The visitors conceded in just 52 seconds as Brazil forward Debinha netted the first goal past India goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan.
However, the Blue Tigresses bounced back strongly as midfielder Manisha Kalyan equalised with a sensational strike. The 20-year-old picked the ball on the left and ran the length of the pitch before finding the back of the net with a finish into the far post bottom corner.

The Brazilians took the lead in the 36th minute as Giovana Costa bagged her first of the night and went into half-time with a 2-1 scoreline.
After the break, the hosts took full control of the match as Ariadina Borges and Kerolin Ferraz scored in quick succession to make it 4-1 in favour of Brazil. Geyse Ferreira added another in the 75th minute before Ariadina Borges netted her second of the match.
India coach Thomas Dennerby lauded Manisha’s goal and termed it as one of the highest quality on a football pitch.
"Individually, it is a top-class goal. It gave us a boost after conceding early on and that allowed us to come back," Dennerby said after the match.
