India will square off against Bangladesh in their second Group A match of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal on Wednesday, October 23.

Under head coach Santosh Kashyap, the Indian women’s football team began their SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 campaign with an impressive 5-2 win against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dasharath Stadium on Thursday.

Ranked 68th in the FIFA women’s world rankings, India rode on a brace from star forward Grace Dangmei while Manisha, Ngangom Bala Devi and Jyoti Chauhan netted a goal each to guide the Blue Tigresses to a big win in Kathmandu.

For Pakistan, Suha Hirani and Kayla Marie Siddique scored a goal each to reduce the deficit. 

On the other hand, the Bangladesh women's national football team were held to a 1-1 draw against Pakistan in their SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 opener on Sunday.

Zahmena Malik gave Pakistan an early lead in the 32nd minute of the game. However, Bangladesh later salvaged a crucial draw as Shamsunnahar Jr. equalised in the 91st minute of the match.

With the win over Pakistan, India are currently placed at the top of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 Group A standings and have already qualified for the semi-finals.

Currently ranked 139th in the FIFA women’s team rankings, Bangladesh are placed second in the Group A standings and need a draw against India on Wednesday to book their place in the last four.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are the defending champions of the SAFF Women’s Championship after they defeated Nepal 3-1 to bag their maiden title in September 2022.

India are the most successful team in the SAFF Women’s Championship history with five titles. The Blue Tigresses won the first five editions of the SAFF Women’s Championship in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2019.
