India will lock horns with Bangladesh in the SAFF U17 Championship 2024 final at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Monday, September 30.

Under head coach Ishfaq Ahmed, India qualified for the SAFF U17 Championship 2024 final after they defeated Nepal 4-2 in a thrilling semi-final clash at the Changlimithang Stadium on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, the India U17 men’s football team rode on goals from Vishal Yadav (61st and 68th minutes), Rishi Singh (85th) and Hemneichung Lunkim (90+5) to pip Nepal and secure their place in the SAFF U17 Championship 2024 final.

Subash Bam’s 81st minute strike and an own goal by India's Mohammed Kaif (89th) helped Nepal reduce the margin.

Earlier, India started their SAFF U17 Championship 2024 campaign with a 1-0 win over Bangladesh. Ishfaq Ahmed’s men later beat Maldives 3-0 in their second match to finish on top of the Group A standings with six points and qualify for the semi-finals.

On the other hand, Bangladesh booked their place in the SAFF U17 Championship 2024 final after they came from two goals down to level it at 2-2 and beat Pakistan on penalties in their semi-final clash on Saturday.

After losing to India in their SAFF U17 Championship 2024 opener, theBangladesh U17 men’s football team were held to a 1-1 draw by Maldives in their second Group A fixture.

With one point from two games, Bangladesh edged Maldives on goal difference to qualify for the semi-finals.

India and Bangladesh have faced each other four times in the finals of SAFF men's age-group tournaments, with India winning thrice (U18 in 2019, U20 in 2022 and U16 in 2023) and Bangladesh winning once (U16 in 2015).

Meanwhile, India are the defending champions of the SAFF U16 Championship after they defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in the 2023 final at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan. They are also the most successful team in the competition’s history with five titles.
