The I-League 2023-24 football season began on Saturday, October 28, with Real Kashmir beating Rajasthan FC 2-0 in the opening fixture at the TRC Polo Synthetic Turf Ground in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
Organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), as many as 13 teams are competing in the 17th edition of the I-League. The ongoing edition is the second I-League season as the second tier of Indian football league system
Aizawl FC, Churchill Brothers FC Goa, Delhi FC, Gokulam Kerala FC, Inter Kashi, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Namdhari FC, Neroca FC, Rajasthan United FC, Real Kashmir FC, Shillong Lajong FC,Sreenidi Deccan FC and Tiddim Road Athletic Union FC are the 13 clubs that are battling for the I-League 2023-24 title.
As per the I-League 2023-24 format, these 13 clubs will play a total of 156 matches on a home-and-away double round-robin format. Each team will play 24 matches each.
The team finishing on top of the standings at the end of the league will emerge as I-League 2023-24 champions. The winner will be eligible for promotion to the Indian Super League 2024-25 provided they fulfil the Club Licensing criteria.
Punjab FC are the last I-League winning team after clinching the 2022-23 season with 52 points from 22 games. They have been promoted and are currently competing in the Indian Super League.
Since the inception of the I-League in 2007, Dempo Sports Club are the most successful team in the league’s history with three titles. They were champions in the 2007–08, 2009–10 and 2011–12 seasons.
