UEFA Euro 2024 hosts Germany will welcome Ukraine to the Weserstadion in Bremen for a friendly match on Monday, June 12. The clash will begin at 9:30 PM IST.
While Germany will use this encounter to finetune their squad ahead of UEFA Euro 2024 next year, Ukraine will utilise this clash to prepare for their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta later this month.
After a group-stage exit in the 2022 World Cup, Germany will be eager to set things right in the upcoming Euros and they will hope to make the most of their friendlies since they don’t need to qualify for the tournament as they are the host nation.
Coached by Hansi Flick, the Germans have three wins, two losses and a draw in their last six encounters across all competitions.
For the clash against Ukraine, they will be without Ilkay Gundogan and Robin Gosens, both of whom have club commitments in the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League final.
The likes of Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, Mario Gotze, Karim Adeyemi, Niklas Sule, and Marco Reus also won’t be seen in action due to injuries and undisclosed reasons for some.
However, the likes of Matthias Ginter, Antonio Rudiger, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sane, Niclas Fullkrug, Jamal Musiala, and Leon Goretzka are all likely to feature for Die Mannschaft.
Ukraine, on the other hand, will be led by newly appointed head coach Sergiy Rebrov and he will be eager to improve upon his team’s form in all competitions, which has seen them win two, lose two and draw two of their last six encounters.
As far as team news is concerned, Ukraine will be without the injured Oleksandr Zinchenko and striker Roman Yaremchuk.
That said, they still have some good quality in the squad with the likes of Vitaliy Mykolenko and Mykhailo Mudryk braced to start the contest.
While both teams have their fair share of quality players capable of making a difference, Germany will head into this friendly as favourites in front of their home support.
Furthermore, Germany has never lost to Ukraine. These teams have faced off eight times and the Germans have won five times and drawn thrice.
