UEFA Euro 2020 pits world champions France against Germany in a mouth-watering Group F clash at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany on Wednesday, June 16 (as per Indian Standard Time).
Under the tutelage of Didier Deschamps, the star-studded French squad will look to clinch their first UEFA European Championship in 21 years, having won the title in 1984 and 2000.
With the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba in their squad, Les Bleus are the favourites to win the title this year.
On the other hand, while Germany are the joint-most successful side in the UEFA European championships with three titles alongside Spain, they have struggled for form since winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Die Mannschaft were thrashed 6-0 by Spain in the UEFA Nations League last year - their worst defeat since 1931. They also recently suffered a 2-1 loss to minnows North Macedonia in the World Cup qualifiers.
Euro 2020 will also be Joachim Low’s last tournament as Germany head coach with former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick set to replace him.

In the France vs Germany head-to-head record in international football, the French have a slight advantage having won 14 of the 31 meetings between these two footballing heavyweights. Meanwhile, Germany have registered 10 victories while seven encounters have ended in draws.
Furthermore, France have remained unbeaten against Germany in over six years, with their last defeat coming in the 2014 World Cup, which Die Mannschaft went on to win. The two teams’ last match at a major tournament was during the Euro 2016 semifinals when Antoine Griezmann’s brace helped France beat Germany 2-0 in Marseille.

Three-time champions Germany will miss the services of Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Jonas Hofmann who is ruled out with a knee injury while Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka is also doubtful for the game.
