The Paris 2024 Olympics will see as many as 16 teams compete in the men’s football event, while 12 nations will battle for the gold medal in the women’s football event.
The draw for football at the Summer Olympics 2024 took place in Paris on March 20, 2024.
In the men’s event, football at the Summer Olympics will be played from July 24 to August 9. It will be the 28th edition of the men's Olympic football tournament.
As per the eligibility criteria, men’s participating teams for football at the Summer Olympics will be restricted to under-23 players (born on or after 1 January 2001) with a maximum of three overage players allowed.
These 16 men’s teams have been divided into four groups of four teams each.

Men’s
Group A: France, United States, Guinea, New Zealand
Group B: Argentina, Morocco, Iraq, Ukraine
Group C: Uzbekistan, Spain, Egypt, Dominican Republic
Group D: Japan, Paraguay, Mali, Israel
Women’s
Group A: France, Colombia, Canada, New Zealand
Group B: United States, Zambia, Germany, Australia
Group C: Spain, Japan, Nigeria, Brazil
In the men’s event, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
Brazil won the men’s football tournament at the Summer Olympics 2020 in Japan. They retained the gold medal after defeating Spain 2-1 in the final.
In the women’s event, football at the Summer Olympics 2024 is scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 10 in France.
Unlike men’s event, the women’s football tournament at the Summer Olympics is a full international tournament with no restrictions on age.
As per the format in the women’s event, these 12 teams have been split into three groups of four teams each.
The top two teams from each group and two third-placed teams will qualify for the women’s quarter-finals.
Canada are the defending champions of the women's football event at the Summer Olympics after they bagged their first title by defeating Sweden on penalties in the final in Japan.
Football at the Summer Olympics 2024 will be staged at seven stadiums in seven cities in France.
The final will be played at Parc des Princes in Paris.
