These 32 qualified teams for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup have been divided into four pots of eight teams each with their allocation based on confederation rankings.
These rankings were utilised during the process of qualification to determine each club's position within their confederation before allocating them to their appropriate pot.
Pot 1: Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Flamengo, Palmeiras, River Plate, Fluminense
Pot 2: Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, FC Porto, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Juventus, Red Bull Salzburg
Pot 3: Al Hilal, Ulsan HD, Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Monterrey, Leon, Boca Juniors, Botafogo
Pot 4: Urawa Red Diamonds, Al Ain, Hope of Tunis, Mamelodi Sundowns, Pachuca, Seattle Sounders, Auckland City, Inter Miami
Several rules will be taken into consideration while the FIFA Club World Cup group stage draw is made to ensure a balanced competition.
The primary guideline is that no group can include more than one team from the same confederation with the exception of UEFA since it has 12 representatives in the competition. As a result, four of the eight groups will feature two European teams.
Other key principles for the draw includes a paired seeding system that’s based on confederation rankings to determine the allocation of pot 1 teams to their respective groups.
Additionally, teams from the same national association will not be placed in the same group and pot 1 teams will automatically have the first position in their assigned groups.
Furthermore, to enable smoother scheduling, the two US-based clubs, Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders will be assigned to the fourth positions in groups A and B, respectively.
Inter Miami CF will play the tournament’s opening match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, while Seattle Sounders begin their campaign at Lumen Field soon after.
As far as the format for the tournament goes, it will follow the same format used during the FIFA World Cup from 1998 to 2022, where 32 teams were divided into eight groups of four sides each.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16 where the knockout fixtures begin and will continue subsequently through to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
