FC Goa will take on Al Wahda in their last match of the AFC Champions League (ACL) group stage at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa on Thursday.
The Gaurs are yet to register a victory in their debut ACL campaign after drawing thrice and losing two games. They currently take up the third spot in Group E, which also has Qatari club Al Rayyan SC, Persepolis FC of Iran and UAE’s Al Wahda.
In their last match, FC Goa blew a chance to become the first Indian club to win in the AFC Champions League after an 89th-minute equaliser from Al Rayyan’s Ali Ferydoon cancelled Jorge Ortiz’s goal for the Indian team.
With the draw, the Edu Bedia-captained FC Goa were knocked out of the race to qualify for the next round.
On the other hand, Goa’s next opponent Al Wahda have been in rampaging form, winning their last three matches and are placed above the Indian side in the points table.
The previous FC Goa vs Al Wahda fixture ended in a goalless draw after a resilient performance from both sides.
Heading into the next match, FC Goa coach Juan Ferrando has raised concerns about the injuries in the squad.
"Of course, we need to improve… There are some injuries, and it is difficult to prepare. The medical staff have been working tirelessly," the All India Football Federation quoted Ferrando saying.
