The 2020-21 UEFA Champions League season is back, and there is no better way to kick off the round of 16 schedule than FC Barcelona hosting Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the first leg meeting at the Camp Nou.
The Blaugrana, currently third in La Liga, have endured a mixed season so far, from losing the Spanish Super Cup final to Athletic Bilbao and seeing Juventus hand them their first defeat in 39 UCL home matches in December.
On the other hand, PSG topped Group H under Thomas Tuchel’s tutelage and now seek to prolong their European adventure under Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine manager has lost just one of his 10 games in the hot seat across all competitions and faces the first big test of his role as PSG head coach when he returns to Camp Nou for the first time since 2018.
On current form, Ronald Koeman’s Barca seems to have an advantage considering they are on a run of seven straight league wins. The Parisians, meanwhile, are on a five-match unbeaten run across all competitions and are likely to give a hard time to Lionel Messi and Co.
With Barcelona hitting a peak in form at the right time and PSG dealing with a fresh wave of injury concerns, the latest FC Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain tie is expected to be a cracker.
Barcelona team news
Barca are without Philippe Coutinho (knee), Sergi Roberto (hamstring), Ansu Fati (meniscus), and Ronald Araújo (ankle) due to injuries for the UEFA Champions League match against PSG. While there are doubts concerning Martin Braithwaite (adductor), Gerard Piqué is yet to receive clearance for being fit for the upcoming fixture.
PSG team news
Brazilian superstar Neymar, a master of the rainbow flick, is the most prominent absentee from the UCL fixture and is likely to be on the sidelines until the second week of March. Argentine winger Angel Di Maria is also out with thigh trouble. Former Barca player Rafinha, and Marco Verratti, have been included in the travelling squad, despite carrying injuries.
