The FA Cup 2022-23 fourth round is set to commence on Saturday, January 28, 2023, with a battle between heavyweights Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who are the record 14-time FA Cup champions, are currently five points ahead of City in the Premier League with a game in hand at the top of the points table. Manchester City are second and Pep Guardiola’s team have been in good goal-scoring form this season but will want to get one over the Gunners in the FA Cup before hunting them down in the league.
While the Gunners last won the FA Cup in 2020, Man City’s previous success was in 2019.
The 12-time FA Cup winners Manchester United have a relatively straightforward fourth round draw at Old Trafford. The Red Devils go up against EFL Championship club Reading, whom they beat in this competition in 2017 and 2019. Erik Ten Hag and Co. will be keen on maintaining their surge to a first FA Cup title since 2016.
Defending champions Liverpool are also among the Premier League ‘Big Six’ featuring in the round of 32. They face Brighton & Hove Albion, who recently beat Jurgen Klopp’s team 3-0 at the AMEX Stadium.
Tottenham, West Ham United, Southampton, Fulham and Leicester City are the other Premier League teams involved in the FA Cup fourth round this season.
Wrexham, owned by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, are the only non-EFL team in this stage of the competition in the 2022-23 season.
The replays for FA Cup matches have officially returned until the quarter-finals, meaning if any fourth round match ends in a draw, it will be replayed at a later date. If the replay remains a tie after 90 minutes, extra-time followed by penalties will decide the winner.
Teams will be allowed to make five substitutions, along with an additional permanent concussion substitution (APCS), like last season in the FA Cup fourth round.
The winners of the fourth round will advance to the fifth round, which is the round of 16 of the FA Cup 2022-23. The draw for the fifth round will be made in the closing stages of the fourth round.
