ATK Mohun Bagan midfielder Edu Garcia has been ruled out for at least two-to-three weeks after the 30-year-old sustained an ankle injury during the Mariners’ last encounter against Chennaiyin FC in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL).
Garcia had limped off the field after the playmaker was fouled by Chennaiyin FC's Memo Moura in the 87th minute.
The former Zaragoza footballer is expected to miss at least five matches and it will be difficult for the star midfielder to get fit before the much anticipated Kolkata derby against SC East Bengal, which is scheduled to take place on February 19.
Garcia is expected to be back for the high octane clash against Mumbai City FC on February 28.
The Spaniard has featured in 10 matches in ISL 7 so far, forming the lynchpin in coach Antonio Habas Lopez’s set-up. Clocking 787 minutes for ATKMB this season, Garcia’s solitary goal came from a stunning free-kick against FC Goa.
Meanwhile, ATK Mohun Bagan have roped in Brazilian forward Marcelinho on a loan swap deal until the end of the season from Odisha FC, which will see Mariners midfielder Brad Inman join Odisha FC on loan, the Goal has reported.
