Juan Ferrando’s FC Goa lock horns with Mohammedan Sporting Club in the 2021 Durand Cup final on Sunday, October 3. The 2021 Durand Cup final will kick off at 6:00 PM IST and will be played at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium, officially known as the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, in Kolkata.
The one-month long gruelling football tournament started off with a 4-1 win for Mohammedan over Indian Air Force. The team went on to win its second group stage game against Central Reserve Police Force Sporting Club but stumbled to a 0-2 defeat against FC Bengaluru United.
However, a second-place finish in Group A was enough to take them to the quarter-finals where a narrow 1-0 win over defending champions Gokulam Kerala gave them passage to the last four. A stern FC Bengaluru United test awaited in the semis but two goals in the extra-time against 10 men made the difference as Mohammedan booked their place in the final.
As for FC Goa, they had no difficulties whatsoever until crossing paths with Indian Super League rivals Bengaluru FC in the semi-final. They needed a penalty shootout to decide a winner and FC Goa emerged victorious from the shootout to book their final berth.
