The one-off CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions 2022, also called the Finalissima 2022, will have the UEFA Euro 2020 champions Italy taking on Copa America 2021 winners Argentina at the Wembley Stadium in the early hours of Thursday, June 2. The match will kick-off at 12:15 AM IST.
This is the third edition of the intercontinental match between the champions of Europe and South America.
Unlike Argentina, who have selected a strong squad for the final, Italy have been marred by several injury issues. The likes of Domenico Berardi and Andrea Pinamonti are both ruled out of the fixture while Federico Chiesa, Ciro Immobile, Gaetano Castrovilli and Rafael Toloi are the recent casualties.
Meanwhile, the match will mark the final appearance of Italy’s long-serving defender Giorgio Chiellini, who will take the field for the 117th time for his national team on Thursday.
As for Argentina, Lionel Messi will continue to don the armband and is most likely to be joined by Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria up front.
