The China women’s football team will take on South Korea women in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India on Sunday, February 6. The game will kick off at 4:30 PM IST.
China, eight-time winners of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, have been one of the most dominant teams in the tournament having scored 11 and conceded none in the group stage.
After a 3-1 win against Vietnam in the quarter-finals, the Chinese women’s team beat reigning two-time champions Japan via penalty shootout and qualified for their first AFC Women’s Asian Cup final since 2008.
South Korea, on the other hand, are making their maiden appearance in an AFC Women’s Asian Cup final. Ranked 18 by FIFA - one spot above China - the South Koreans booked their place in the summit clash at the expense of Philippines in the semi-final, with midfielder Cho So-hyun (4th minute) and forward Son Hwa-yeon (34th minute) scoring in the 2-0 win.
The China vs South Korea head-to-head record in the last seven games is in favour of the former. China have registered five wins and played two draws against South Korea, with their last defeat coming in August 2015.
The last time the teams met was in April 2021, when China secured a 4-3 aggregate win against South Korea in the final Asian playoff for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
