The CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023 is scheduled to start on January 14 and conclude on February 12 in Ivory Coast.
Organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the 34th edition of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations will see 24 teams compete in a total of 52 matches to be played in six venues.
The tournament was postponed by CAF due to the adverse summer weather concerns in Ivory Coast. However, it retained the original name for sponsorship purposes.
As per the AFCON 2023 format, the participating teams have been divided into six groups of four teams each.
Each team will play the other sides in their group once. The top two teams from each group along with the four best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout stage that comprises the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
The CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023 final will be played at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé on February 12.
Senegal are the defending champions of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations after they beat Egypt on penalties in the 2021 final.
Meanwhile, Egypt are the most successful team in the biennial football tournament with seven titles. Cameroon have won the competition five times while Ghana have clinched it on four occasions.
