Brazil will look to improve from their stuttering start to the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign when they face Ecuador at the Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira on Saturday, September 7. The match will begin at 6:30 AM IST.

Under Dorival Junior, Brazil will be desperate to return to winning ways as they lost the previous game to arch-rivals Argentina at home. Their last outing in Copa America 2024 also saw them to Uruguay 2-4 on penalties, crashing out in the quarter-finals.

Brazil are currently sixth in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers with seven points from six games. They’ve won twice, drawn once and lost thrice so far.

They will be hoping to snap a three-match losing streak in their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers in a bid to avoid the unthinkable of them missing out in the next football World Cup.

Attacker Lucas Moura is all set to return to the senior national team after a six-year hiatus from the squad, while other newcomers like Luiz Henrique and Estêvão will also be keen to make a mark.

A lot will depend on how their attacking talents like Raphinha, Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo and Endrick fare against Ecuador in the absence of injured superstar Neymar.

The likes of Antony, Casemiro, Gabriel Martinelli and Richarlison are some of the notable absentees from the Brazil squad.

Ecuador, on the other hand, were last seen in the quarter-final of the Copa America 2024 as they lost 2-4 to Argentina on penalties following a 1-1 draw in extra time.

Coached by Sebastián Beccacece, Ecuador are currently one spot above Brazil in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers with eight points from six games after three wins, two draws and a loss.

Ecuador’s star man Enner Valencia is expected to lead the attack against Brazil, while Chelsea midfielder Caicedo will be entrusted to take responsibility in midfield.
