Defending Copa America champions Brazil will look to end the group stages with a 100% win record when they face Ecuador at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico on June 28, Monday.
The Brazil national football team has started their Copa America 2021 campaign on a brilliant note, having defeated Colombia (2-1), Peru (4-0) and Venezuela (3-0) in their Group B matches so far. Led by Neymar, the Seleção have scored nine goals and conceded just once in the process.
Ecuador, on the other hand, are yet to register a win. They have drawn twice and lost one in their three group stage matches and sit fourth in the points table with two points.
Ecuador trail Colombia (4 points) and Peru (4 points) by two points and will have to win their clash against Brazil in order to secure a place in the Copa America quarter-finals.
Brazil vs Ecuador head-to-head in football
Brazil will start as the clear favourites against Ecuador, given their superior head-to-head record. The teams have faced each other 33 times so far, with Brazil winning 27 of those matches and drawing four times.
Brazil have lost only twice to Ecuador and the last time La Tri defeated Brazil was back in 2004, during a FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Brazil team news and injury updates
Despite not having any major injury concerns, Brazil head coach Tite is expected to rotate his squad, as has been the norm so far. Though Neymar is expected to lead the forward line, veteran defender Thiago Silva is likely to be rested for this match.
All the three Brazilian goalkeepers, Ederson, Alison and Weverton, started a game each in the group stages so far and it will be interesting to see who stands between the sticks against Ecuador.
Ecuador team news and injury updates
With nothing really clicking for them so far, Ecuador coach Gustavo Alfaro will be looking to try something different against Brazil in a must-win clash. And his injury-free squad gives him enough scope to experiment.
Given Brazil’s attacking talents up front, Ecuador could be tempted to play a five-man defence with Xavier Arreaga returning to a back-five setup. On the other end, the in-from Ayrton Preciado will look to team up with Leonardo Campana to hit Brazil on the counter.
