Brazil take on Chile in their quarter-final tie at Copa America 2021 on Saturday, July 3 at the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
The Selecao are one of two teams in the ongoing continental championship alongside Argentina who are yet to lose a game so far. Slotted in Group B with the likes of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, Tite’s men scored 10 goals in four group stage games and conceded a mere two.
Chile, on the other hand, were in a rather difficult group. They faced Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia in their group stage games and could only muster one win from those matches. They scored just three goals in four games and conceded four.
Brazil vs Chile head-to-head in football
Brazil vs Chile head-to-head record is dominated by the former. The two teams have played a total of 72 matches so far and Brazil have come out victorious in a whopping 51 of those. Chile, on their part, have won just eight while 13 matches have ended in a draw.
Saturday’s clash is going to be Brazil and Chile’s first meeting in the knockout stage of Copa America since 2007. The last time they squared off in the competition, Brazil thrashed Chile 6-1 to cruise to the semi-final.
Since the turn of the century, Chile have managed just two wins over Brazil. One of which came in 2000 in a FIFA World Cup CONMEBOL South American qualifier, while the other came in 2015 in a World Cup qualifying clash.
Brazil team news and injury updates
Head coach Tite rested several of his first-team players for Brazil’s final group stage game against Ecuador, meaning that fans are likely to witness a full-strength Brazil team in the quarter-final.
Brazil have no injury concerns whatsoever and the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, Neymar, Fred, Casemiro, Thiago Silva and Danilo are certain to return to the first team.
Chile team news and injury updates
Unlike Brazil, Chile had to wait until the very last group stage game to make it to the quarter-final. Their form in the competition has been poor and they are once again expected to miss their star man Alexis Sanchez. The 32-year-old suffered an injury ahead of the competition and while he has recovered, it is unclear whether he will be used or not.
The absence of Sanchez means all eyes will be on senior players like Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas. Furthermore, Chile are also sweating over the injury of defender Guillermo Maripan.
