East Bengal enter the contest on the back of a 2-2 draw against Paro FC in their opening Group A match of the AFC Challenge League 2024-25 at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Bashundhara Kings had a losing start to their AFC Challenge League 2024-25 campaign with the Bangladesh outfit falling short to Lebanon’s Nejmeh SC by a solitary goal in another Group A match in Thimpu.
East Bengal are second in Group A with a point whereas Bashundhara Kings are last in the four-team table after the first-round matches.
East Bengal had a forgettable start to their domestic campaign losing all their six encounters in the Indian Super League this year.
The Kolkata-based club also saw their coach Carles Caudrat getting sacked this season after enduring a winless run in their first three matches in the ISL this season.
The AFC Challenge League 2024-25 will be the 11th edition of the Asian Football Confederation’s third-tier continental club football competitions, after the AFC Champions League Elite and AFC Champions League Two.
The tournament returns for the first time after 2014 and has been renamed from its earlier AFC President’s Cup to the AFC Challenge League.
The tournament has a total of 18 teams, 12 from the western region split into three groups of four teams each and six from the eastern region in two groups of three teams each.
Each team will play one match against all opponents in the same group in a single round-robin format in the league phase.
The Three group winners and the best second-placed side will proceed to the quarter-finals from the western region while top-two teams from both groups in the eastern region also proceed to the last eight.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be played by teams within the respective regions before the best team in the eastern region meets the top side from the west in the final of the AFC Challenge League 2024-25.
The winner of the competition will be given a direct slot for the 2025-26 AFC Champions League Two group stage.
East Bengal entered the AFC Challenge League 2024-25 after losing 2-3 to Turkmenistan’s Altyn Asyr in the Qualifying Playoffs of AFC Champions League Two 2024-25, the second tier of AFC’s continental club football competition.
This will be the first time since 2015 that East Bengal will appear in the continental club competition scene.
They last played in the erstwhile AFC Cup (AFC Champions League Two) in 2015 with their best result coming in the same competition when they reached the last four in 2013.
