The Asian Games 2023 women’s football tournament will start on September 21 and run till October 6 in Hangzhou, China.
The Indian women’s football team is among the 16 teams that will compete for the coveted gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 women’s football event.
These 16 participating teams have been divided into five groups.
Led by head coach Thomas Dennerby, India are placed in Group B alongside Chinese Taipei and Thailand at Asian Games 2023.
India will begin their Asian Games 2023 campaign against Chinese Taipei on September 21, before facing Thailand on September 24. The Blue Tigresses had previously competed at the Asian Games on two occasions – Bangkok 1998 and Incheon 2014.
Group A features hosts China, Uzbekistan and Mongolia, while North Korea and Singapore are placed in Group C. Cambodia, who were previously clubbed in Group C, have pulled out of the tournament.
Japan, Vietnam, Nepal and Bangladesh have been included in Group D while Group E comprises South Korea, Hong Kong, Philippines and Myanmar.
As per the format, five groups winners along with the three best second-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals. All teams will square off against each other once in a round-robin format in the group stage.
The quarter-finals are scheduled to be held on September 30, while the semi-finals will take place on October 3.
The gold and bronze medal matches will be played on October 6.
Wenzhou Olympic Sports Centre, Wenzhou Sports Center Stadium, Linping Sports Center Stadium, Shangcheng Sports Center Stadium and Yellow Dragon Sports Center are the five venues that will host Asian Games 2023 women’s football matches.
