The Asian Games 2023 men’s football tournament started on September 19 and will conclude on October 7 in Hangzhou, China.
As many as 21 national teams will compete for the coveted gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 men’s football event.
These 21 participating teams have been divided into six groups.
Hosts China, India, Myanmar and Bangladesh are clubbed in Group A, while Iran, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Mongolia have been placed in Group B.
Uzbekistan and Hong Kong are the two teams in Group C, following the withdrawal of Afghanistan and Syria.
Group D comprises Japan, Palestine and Qatar, while Group E features South Korea, Bahrain, Thailand and Kuwait.
North Korea, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei and Kyrgyzstan have been included in Group F.
As per the format, each team will play the other sides in their group once. The top two teams from each group and the four best third-placed teams across all the groups will advance to the round of 16.
South Korea are the defending champions of the Asian Games men’s football tournament, having won the coveted title in Indonesia in 2018. They beat Japan 2-1 in the final.
