Mumbai City FC will lock horns with UAE-based outfit Al Jazira FC in their third Group B match of the AFC Champions League (ACL) 2022 at the King Fahd stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday, April 14.
Under manager Des Buckingham, Mumbai City scripted history as they became the first Indian football club to register a victory in the AFC Champions League on Monday. The Islanders came from a goal down to stun Iraq’s Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (Air Force Club) 2-1.
However, Mumbai City FC started their AFC Champions League 2022 campaign with a 0-3 defeat against Al-Shabab FC of Saudi Arabia in their opening match of the tournament. With three points from two matches, MCFC are currently placed second in Group B with one win and one loss.
On the other hand, Al Jazira FC have made a dismal start to their AFC Champions League 2022 campaign. The Abu Dhabi-based club has suffered back-to-back defeats against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (1-2) and Al-Shabab (0-3) in their first two matches of the competition.
Mumbai City will miss the services of their star forward Igor Angulo, who suffered a calf strain ahead of their tournament opener.
Al-Jazira coach Marcel Keizer has no injury concerns for their crucial encounter and will bank on the likes of Ali Mabkhout, Khalfan Mubarak and Abdoulay Diaby to produce quality football against the former Indian Super League (ISL) champions on Thursday.
This will be the first meeting between Al-Jazira and Mumbai CIty in the AFC Champions League.
