The African Cup of Nations 2021 will begin with hosts Cameroon locking horns against Burkina Faso at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde on Sunday, January 9.
The 33rd edition of Africa’s grandest football competition will be held across five cities in Cameroon. The tournament was initially supposed to be played between June and July 2021 but owing to climate conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers agreed to postpone it to a window between January and February 2022.
The 24 teams participating in AFCON 2021 are divided into six groups of four teams each. Among the prominent nations, defending champions Algeria have been drawn alongside Ivory Coast in Group E, while seven-time winners Egypt are clubbed with Nigeria in Group D.
The AFCON will be played in six stadiums - Olembe Stadium and Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in the capital Yaounde, the Japoma Stadium in Douala, the Limbe Stadium in Limbe, the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam and the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.
The final of AFCON 2021 will be played at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde on February 7.
