India national football team captain Sunil Chhetri has been one of the most successful sports personalities in the country.
Born in Secunderabad, Telangana, Sunil Chhetri began his professional football career at Mohun Bagan in 2002.
Chhetri later made his India national U-20 football team debut at the 2004 South Asian Games in Pakistan. India registered a 1-0 win against Pakistan U-23 side on March 30, 2004.
Four days later, the talented forward netted a brace in India’s 4-1 victory over Bhutan U-23 team.
Having impressed at the junior level,Chhetri then made his senior India national football team debut against Pakistan in June 2005.

He is also the most-capped player for India, having made 150 official appearances for the Blue Tigers at international level.
Meanwhile, Chhetri has announced his retirement from international football after the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Kuwait at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on June 6.
Apart from his international exploits, Chhetri has also bagged more than 150 goals at club level.
He has also won several prestigious awards, including the Khel Ratna, India's highest sporting honour, the Arjuna Award - the country's second-highest sporting award, and the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award.
