The Kalinga Super Cup is the premier cup competition in men's domestic football in India.
Organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the Indian Super Cup has been held annually since it succeeded the Federation Cup in 2018. The Federation Cup was India's main knockout football tournament.
Earlier known as the AIFF Super Cup, the tournament is now open to all clubs in the Indian Super League and the I-League, the top two divisions of the Indian football league system respectively.
Bengaluru FC won the first edition of the Super Cup after defeating East Bengal 4-1 in the 2018 final at the Kalinga Stadium.
The Blues’ skipper and Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri is the top-scorer in the competition’s history having found the back of the net nine times.
FC Goa won the second edition of the tournament after overcoming Chennaiyin FC in 2019.
Both the 2018 and 2019 editions were a 16-team knockout tournament.
Meanwhile, the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Indian football team’s fixtures from 2020 to 2022.
Since 2023, the Kalinga Super Cup features 16 clubs in the group stage.
All ISL clubs qualify directly for the group stage while I-League clubs play qualifiers for the four remaining spots.
The 16 teams in the main draw are divided into four groups of four teams each. Each team plays the other sides in their group once.
At the completion of the group stage, the team with the most points advance to the semi-finals as per the current format.
In the knockouts, extra time is played if the match ends in a draw after a full 90 minutes, followed by a penalty shoot-out if required.
The winner of the Kalinga Super Cup secures a spot in the AFC Champions League 2.
East Bengal are the defending champions of the Kalinga Super Cup after defeating Odisha FC 3-2 at the Kalinga Stadium in the 2024 final. Get the full Kalinga Super Cup winners list.
