Results on matchday 15 of the Indian Super League made significant changes in the league table, as a loss for Odisha FC against FC Goa allowed the likes of Mumbai City FC as well as Chennaiyin FC to climb up a few places. As things stand, Jorge Costa’s men sit fourth with 23 points, while Chennaiyin occupy a place behind with a game in hand.
In other games, defending champions, Bengaluru FC pipped bottom-placed Hyderabad FC by 1-0, while ATK ran riot against Jamshedpur FC, emerging 3-0 victorious on the back of a match-winning performance by captain Roy Krishna.
Five games, 20 goals and here are best from the lot:
Bartholomew Ogbeche
For: Kerala Blasters
Against: Chennaiyin FC
Kerala Blasters’ Bartholomew Ogbeche is scoring goals at will this season. After scoring back to back goals against Jamshedpur and Goa, the Nigerian was at it once again, this time scoring a hat-trick against Chennaiyin FC in a losing cause.
Despite being 3-0 down in the opening half, Kerala showed desire to go all the way and were rewarded in the 48th minute when lefy-back Jessel Carneiro sent an inviting ball in the area. There was still a lot to do to finish off the move and Ogbeche slid in to beat Vishal Kaith on goal.
Bartholomew Ogbeche
For: Kerala Blasters
Against: Chennaiyin FC
With the scoreline reading 4-1, everything seemed lost for Kerala, but Ogbeche once again gave a glaring hope with a breathtaking strike. Receiving the ball at the edge of the area in the 65th minute, the 35-year-old took a touch before slotting home with a powerful drive to send the home fans into a frenzy.
Manuel Onwu
For: Odisha FC
Against: FC Goa
Odisha FC’s Manuel Onwu is proving out to be a worthy replacement of Aridane Santana, who is ruled out of the rest of the season. Against Goa, the 32-year-old Spaniard scored a brace and the best amongst those was his first, which ironically was similar to Ogbeche’s opener against Chennai.
Receiving a long ball from the left flank, the Spaniard headed towards the far post to bring his team right into the game.
Nishu Kumar
For: Bengaluru FC
Against: Hyderabad FC
This wonder strike from Nishu Kumar against Hyderabad FC was arguably the best goal of matchday 15. One should wonder how long the players have practiced to pull off a move as this. Winning a corner in the seventh minute, Nishu Kumar ran towards the area and connected the ball sweetly enough in the first time of asking that it curled into the back of the net.
