Norwegian frontman Erling Haaland boasts a mind-boggling record in the UEFA Champions League ever since making his debut in the competition for Red Bull Salzburg in the 2019-20 UCL campaign.
Erling Haaland has scored 33 goals in just 25 UCL matches and he’s the youngest player to reach 30 goals in the competition’s history. The Norwegian striker notched up 30 goals at just 22 years and 236 days.
He breached the 30-goal barrier in the UCL after scoring five times for Manchester City against RB Leipzig in a second-leg round of 16 clash in 2022-23.
Haaland also became only the third player in UEFA Champions League history to score five goals in a match against RB Leipzig after Luiz Adriano (Shakhtar Donetsk vs BATE Borisov) and Lionel Messi (Barcelona v Bayer Leverkusen). However, it’s worth noting that only Haaland and Messi have managed to net five times in a UEFA Champions League knockout game.
Besides being the youngest to 30 UCL goals, Haaland also holds the record for being the quickest to break the 30-goal barrier. He did so in just 25 games, which is nine games fewer than it took the previous record holder Ruud van Nistelrooy.
His five goals against Leipzig helped him bag his second hat-trick in the competition having previously scored thrice for Red Bull Salzburg on his UCL debut.
Haaland has represented three clubs in the UEFA Champions League. Currently, with Manchester City, the talismanic frontman also wore Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund colours in Europe’s premier competition.
