India’s participation at the World Esports Championships 2023 is all set to begin on August 26 and could run till September 3 at Iasi, Romania.

An annual multi-game esports event, the upcoming edition of the IESF World Esports Championships 2023 will be the 15th edition of the tournament.

India’s two biggest esports talents Abhinav Tejan and Ibrahim Gulrez are set to participate at the 15th World Esports Championships (WEC) from August 26.

Abhinav Tejan will be competing in the Tekken 7 category, while Ibrahim Gulrez will battle it out in eFootball 2023 in a bid for the whopping prize pool of $500,000 (INR 4.12 crore).

The Tekken 7 esports event at the World Esports Championships 2023 will take place from August 2 to September with 105 participants, including India’s Abhinav Tejan, who will feature in Group B action.

Representing India for the sixth time at the prestigious tournament, Tejan will begin his campaign in Group B against Turkmenistan, Egypt, and Colombia on the opening day of the group stages.

Meanwhile, Gulrez will be determined to prove his mettle in his debut at the eFootball 2023 tournament. 

He will face off against Kazakhstan, Portugal, and Mali on the first day before squaring off against Uruguay and Belgium on the following day in Group D. The eFootball 2023 group stage matches will be conducted in the best-of-2 series.

More than 100 gamers will be divided into 16 groups for both the Tekken 7 and eFootball 2023 titles with the top three participants from each group advancing to the playoff round.

Both Abhinav Tejan and Ibrahim Gulrez secured their berth at the 15th WEC after winning the National Esports Championships (NESC) 2023, organized by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI).

The 15th World Esports Championships will be the largest edition of the tournament yet with a minimum of 130 countries participating in popular games like eFootball, DOTA 2, Tekken7, Mobile Legends, PUBG: Mobile, and CS:GO.
