Epic Games is not letting Fortnite cheaters off the hook. Fortnite Competitive announced in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post that pro player Morgan ‘RepulseGod’ Bamford cheated his way to qualifying for the 2023 Fortnite Championship Series (FNCS).

RepulseGod was found guilty of account sharing with another player named Forbes. This act gave them an unfair edge, which violates Fortnite’s strict tournament rules. After a thorough investigation, Epic Games took swift action and gave the pro player a lifetime ban from all future Fortnite events.

Additionally, the prize money RepulseGod earned from the FNCS was revoked and donated to charity. He was also required to pay a monetary payout as part of his lawsuit.

On top of that, the pro player was forced to post a public apology on his YouTube channel, admitting his wrongdoing. ‘Cheating…ruins the fun for the players who earned their spot in tournaments and I apologise to the Fortnite community for my actions’, he stated.

Epic Games’ strict integrity policy

Epic Games has long held a zero-tolerance policy for cheating, account sharing, and other forms of gaming misconduct. The company has consistently enforced bans on players who tried to take an unfair advantage out of the system.

In 2019, Epic banned popular Fortnite pro Damion ‘XXiF’ Cook and Ronald ‘Ronaldo’ Mach during the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers. The two were found teaming up with others to get easy kills in the game—a practice strictly prohibited. They faced a two-week ban for this action.

Similarly, in the same year, the Fortnite superstar FaZe’s Jarvis Khattri faced a permanent ban from future tournaments for openly using aimbots in matches. Unlike RepulseGod’s case, which is an outright tournament fraud, Jarvis’ was more of a Fortnite hack featured in a YouTube video.

The Fortnite community

The ban on RepulseGod’s actions sends a clear message to the Fortnite esports community: Epic Games will never tolerate any form of cheating. The company is committed to fostering a fair and honest gaming environment.

However, some players have voiced concerns about the severity of the punishment. Meanwhile, the majority of the Fortnite community supported Epic’s decision. They view it as a much-needed step to address the long-standing issue of cheating in the game’s ecosystem.

RepulseGod had notable success in Fortnite, with a fourth-place finish at DreamHack Anaheim in 2019. He also achieved strong placements in multiple Oceania Fortnite Champion Series events.

The result of this lawsuit serves as a reminder for all esports players to adhere to fair play, as any violations can have a lifelong impact on their careers.
