Having retired from international cricket, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is weighing his options of playing in various T20 leagues around the globe.
The Punjab-born player, who called time on his international career last week, had expressed his desire to play overseas leagues for ‘fun’. He has written to the BCCI seeking permission for the same. "He wrote to the board yesterday. I don't see an issue in him getting the nod to play in overseas leagues now that he has retired from international cricket and IPL," a BCCI source told PTI on Tuesday.
The BCCI has barred active Indian players from playing in the various T20 leagues around the world, as they hope to keep them fit and available for the Indian T20 League and the Indian international calendar. This is one of the reasons why Yuvraj had to wait until post-retirement to consider the option.
In the past, the BCCI had granted permission to Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan to play in the foreign leagues after their retirement. The duo turned up for the T10 league in the UAE. Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan is one of the active domestic players to express his interest in playing in a foreign league. The Baroda pacer was included in the Caribbean Premier League early this year.
Yuvraj, during his retirement speech in Mumbai last week had said that he was looking forward to play in foreign T20 leagues. "I want to play T20 cricket. At this age, I can manage to play some kind of fun cricket. I want to go and enjoy my life. It's been too stressful just thinking about my international career, performing and big tournaments like the IPL.”
